Moving to Franktown

Started with a Dream

Texas Family
Visiting our family in Texas and seeing my cousin’s farm lit a spark

In March of 2020, Jami, Dave , Kristyn, Matt and the kids  were all visiting family in Texas. Most of the family in Texas has land, many have farms and animals. We all dreamed about how fun it would be to, one day, have a little land. Our business and immediate family is all in Colorado, and our lives are centered around the Denver-metro area. So finding land, especially affordable land, presented a challenge.

While in Texas, the Covid Pandemic started rolling, and things were beginning to shut down. We came back to a very different Colorado than the one we left. We came back to empty shelves, closed schools and no toilet paper or wipes to be found.

The Dream Became a Mission

During the Covid quarantines we would pick up to-go food form our favorite restaurants and sit out on the patio at Jami & Dave’s suburban home. Jami had a beautiful garden there, but it was only barely scratching her horticulture itch. Some late evenings chatting over re-warmed burgers, we started browsing around on the real-estate sites. Could we combine resources and do this, what would the logistical challenges be, could we do it without killing each other? Quickly we realized we had a really cool idea.

Why No Goats in the HOA?

We quickly found a lot of great properties. But like much of Colorado, even the rural properties are governed by an HOA. We were shocked to find out that even on 5acres lots goats were prohibited in almost every HOA we looked at. The dream would be to have a little mini-farm and goats were the key animal! We spent hours and hours pouring through HOA docs, calling presidents asking which ones would take goats. It took months to map out suitable neighborhoods. The picking’s were slim unless we went further out than we originally intended. Months went by, we saw many “almost” many “maybes” and a few “really close” houses. Then a 10 acre property in Franktown with pretty much all of wish-list items popped up. We closed on the house December 12, 2020, just in time to start a new year in a new place with a whole new life ahead.

Franktown Colorado

We couldn’t be happier to be in Franktown. In fact it was our first and best choice when we were looking. We found a house on 10acres, which is zoned for agriculture and no HOA! The house has 4 bedrooms (just enough) with a detached apartment for office space and spreading-out room. It had an awesome barn too, which allowed us to get started right away. We love our new home, and can’t wait for many more memories to come.
